LEARNING MODEL

The Compass Leadership Institute delivers powerful executive development through a holistic learning model that combines real-world case studies on contemporary management topics with hands-on field activities and site visits.

The interactive classroom sessions led by subject-matter experts build understanding of key concepts and best practices, and small-group teams collaborate on case study solutions. Participants then spend time at businesses, non-profits and government entities to observe operations and meet with organization leaders.  These site visits reinforce in practice the learning from case study analysis.

LOCATIONS AND STRUCTURE

The Compass Leadership Institute offers interactive executive leadership seminars on a variety of contemporary business topics throughout the year in three different American cities: Honolulu/Waikiki, Hawaii; San Francisco/Silicon Valley, California; and Los Angeles/Santa Monica, California. Other locations may be considered upon special request.

Each seminar is designed as a five to six-day professional development and cultural experience for up to 20 colleagues from a single country. This nation-focused structure allows for collaborative learning among business and government leaders who share economic circumstances, a common language, and similar backgrounds.

Typically, a designated government official or business association leader serves as a Program Facilitator who works with the Compass Leadership Institute to organize a seminar based on the country's socio-economic needs and growth goals. The Program Facilitator invites executives from the private and public sectors to participate.

ABOUT COMPASS

Laurie and David Preece established the Compass Leadership Institute after many years of successful engagement as consultants, subject matter experts, and seminar hosts for international groups sponsored by the Tokyo-based Asian Productivity Organization in locations such as Fiji, Indonesia and Hawaii.

Their close interactions with APO seminar participants from around the world demonstrated a great demand for best-practices-based professional learning and development. Participants were eager to gain new knowledge and experiences that could be applied in their home countries as part of strategies for economic and social advancement.

David and Laurie also had extensive experience with international college students during his 12 years on the business and hospitality faculty at Brigham Young University-Hawaii. In teaching, mentoring and socializing with this diverse group of international students, David and Laurie observed their unique and enthusiastic need for competence in sophisticated business strategies and practices which could launch careers and create opportunities for success in their developing nations.

Laurie and David determined to establish a structured and innovative approach to professional learning based on their experiences and observations among global professionals in the public and private sectors—and among young people preparing for career entry into similar roles.

The outcome of this journey is the Compass Leadership Institute which is dedicated to fostering socio-economic growth in developing nations through innovative professional education.
